The Mayor of Perm Aleksey Demkin laid flowers at the monument to the Urals Volunteer Tank Corps
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the people's feat of forming the Urals Volunteer Tank Corps.
On March 11, a solemn ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternal Flame memorial at the monument to the Urals Volunteer Tank Corps took place in Perm. It was held in honour of the 80th anniversary of the People's feat of forming the Urals Volunteer Tank Corps during the World War II.
Flowers and wreaths were laid at the monument by the Mayor of Perm, Aleksey Demkin, and other officials, as well as officers, participants of the special military operation, representatives of veterans and public organizations.
The Day of the People's Feat of forming the Urals Volunteer Tank Corps during the World War II perpetuates the memory of our fellow-citizens who initiated the creation of the corps in January 1943. Those were citizens of three regions — Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk and Molotov (that was the name of the Perm Region at that time).
The Urals Volunteer Tank Corps was fully formed, including the combat vehicles, at the expense of workers. It was truly labour heroism. Every single district of the city contributed to the common cause.
2,475 volunteers were required from the Molotov region to form the corps, but about 40,000 applications were received from citizens at the recruitment offices.
The tank corps consisted of several military units formed from volunteers of the Molotov region and at the expense of its citizens.
During the two years of participation in the World War II, the tank corps liberated hundreds of cities and thousands of settlements. The corps was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, the Suvorov Order of II degree, the Kutuzov Order of II degree.
It should also be noted that in the summer of 2020 Perm was awarded the title of the City of Labour Valor for the contribution of the citizens of the region to the Victory. The decree was signed by President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
